Cyber bullying and Social Media Pressures: How to support your kids online and off

Our recent special event webinar was presented by Internet Professional and Media Educator Rebecca Asquith and hosted by Parents at Work Founder Emma Walsh.

Cyber bullying and social media pressure is a fascinating and super hot issue at the moment – one that is very serious and can have lasting effects on our children and the wider community if it goes unaddressed.

What’s astounding is that Australia still doesn’t have much in the way of legislation that  focuses on Internet-specific guidelines. As New Zealand and other countries lead the way it’s time we start talking and put the spotlight on why it’s rattling so many young people into doing and feeling things that aren’t natural or healthy for them.

Keeping Kids Safe and Healthy this Winter

Sarah Hunstead – Founder of CPR Kids – is a paediatric emergency nurse or ‘saving angel’ and mother of two. She joined Emma Walsh, Director of Parents@Work, for a discussion about how we can support children during Winter in regards to health and safety.  CPR Kids empowers parents and carers of children with the lifesaving skills of baby and child first aid and ‘recognition of the sick child’. The work they do revolves around Prevention, Recognition, Response to sick and injured children.

Children are more susceptible to illness, especially during Winter, as they have smaller airways and lungs so even a small amount of congestion can result in a health issue quite quickly, in comparison to an adult. They also don’t have the immunity strength of an adult.

Struggling with Juggling

As a society we are busier than ever – add being a working parent into the mix and the juggle is a daily challenge, for some this has no end in sight. So how do we reduce the stress and busyness to manage and enjoy our family and work life more?

Recently Parents At Work founder Emma Walsh was joined by David James, CEO of Juggle Street – the social network bringing neighbours (and busy parents) together to help make juggling life that little bit easier. David and Emma discussed via Webinar the topic Struggling with Juggling and explored a recent working parent productivity study which revealed some astounding statistics. The stand out one being that it costs the Australian economy an estimated $24 billion per annum from parents stressing and dealing with family issues at work.
