‘Despite the rapid rate in which mothers have returned to the workforce over the past 10 – 20 years, there has been almost zero shift in the percentage of men taking up parental leave or opting to stay at home as the primary carer.’ – Excerpt from Roundtable Discussion Report
The first national roundtable discussion on parental leave equality, hosted by Parents At Work and Baker McKenzie, was held in Sydney on Monday 26 November 2018.
This follows the launch of the global Parental Leave Equality Campaign earlier this year led by Parents At Work, the Workplace Gender Equality Agency and other progressive organisations determined to advance how we equally support men and women to engage in parental leave and flexible work.
Experts from HR, Inclusion & Diversity, and Legal gathered together to think-tank how their organisations can implement a more ‘shared’ and inclusive approach to their parental leave policies.
Representatives from professional services, banking & finance, technology, legal, construction, FMCG, insurers and advocacy groups were in attendance, and shared a broad range of ideas and experiences, identified the barriers facing their individual organisations and industries from implementing best practice parental leave, and offered solutions to these current barriers.
